Images
These tools change a picture rather than a document: resizing it, making its file smaller, turning or flipping it, cutting out its background, changing its file format, or moving between photos and scalable vector shapes. Resize image and Remove background open the same image workspace as the full editor; the others each open their own page.
Before you start
You need an image file. Resize image and Remove background accept the same image types the editor opens generally (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP). Convert images and the two SVG tools additionally accept TIFF, ICO, HEIC/HEIF photos and SVG files. Rotate image accepts any image file. Compress image accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and HEIC/HEIF pictures (not SVG or ICO). HEIC/HEIF photos need the engine to support them — if it doesn't, you'll see "HEIC input needs libheif on the engine."
Tips
- Uploading a photo to a form that says "under 200 KB"? Type 200 in Keep under on Compress image — DocuFlow lowers the quality, then the size, until it fits.
- Resize image never compounds quality loss — each resize starts again from the original picture (or your last non-resize edit), not from a previous resize's result.
- Use SVG to image when you need a fixed-size picture (for a document or a slide); use Image to SVG when you need a shape that stays sharp at any size (for a logo used at many sizes).
- Image to SVG works best on logos, icons and drawings — a photograph comes out as flat colour shapes, not a faithful copy.
- If a HEIC photo (typically from an iPhone) won't convert, the engine you're connected to may not support HEIC yet — "HEIC input needs libheif on the engine."
- Remove background is undoable like any other edit — select Undo if the result isn't what you wanted. Switching between Flat colour and Photo (AI), or moving Tolerance, changes the result in place, so one Undo still takes it all back.
- Finished editing a picture in the image workspace and want it in a PDF instead of on its own? Select Add to PDF to carry it straight into the PDF editor without downloading it first.
